Transmutare by Shelia Bolt Rudesill
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Transmutare is a dark and disturbing story that is both compelling and troubling. The story follows a bright young girl through some of the happiest and saddest points all in her life, all within a matter of a few weeks, resulting in a severe grief reaction and psychotic episode. This is where the story takes a turn to the seedy side of life. Watching Shelli fight her way back to sanity, despite even more emotional setbacks is a turbulent ride. Woven throughout the book are religious undertones, which both help and hinder Shelli’s fight to find meaning. At times the story seems forced, especially some of the religious traditions, but in general I found the book interesting.
