Confessions of a Social (media) butterfly

As usual I was trying to do four things at once, and in the process I was texting my hubby about something while texting a response to my brother and simultaneously trying to answer a question from my daughter on Facebook messenger.  You can already see where this is going – I sent my husband a response that was intended to my brother, and he was naturally confused.  I explained and my hubby laughed, calling me a social media butterfly.  I loved his description and it was fairly accurate to the kind of exchange I was having with my daughter, brother and husband all at the same time.
Our lives have become so dependent upon technology.  This is even more evident in our children, who can barely take a shower without a phone in their hand.  There is no doubt that social media has changed our lives.

I have always been a social person and I do admit – I am on social media quite a bit; not only for personal reasons, but also to share my blog posts and to promote my books.  For a small blogger and indie author, social media provides an invaluable ability to connect with other people without a huge marketing budget.  I am enjoying the use of social media to catch up with old friends and even make some new ones, and as long as I can avoid the emotional black hole that resides in the comments sections, my use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, and Linkedin have been fun and an effective media tool.

I value the friendships that I have on social media.   The people who go out of their way to write an encouraging comment on my post always manage to make my day just a little bit better, and I truly hope that I am able to return that favor.  So yes – I guess I am a social media butterfly.

  1. Yes, this is life changing for sure. We have to have moments where we put down the phone and sit on the porch though.

  2. Laurie, I was just thinking about how much time social media takes up today and realize it's a CHOICE. I do connect with more people because of the digital age and confess that I too have broadened my world because of it.

    1. Thanks Kathy - I agree, I have met so many wonderful people through my online presence and I am still learning how to use social media so it remains a positive influence in my life, and also keep some balance of 'off-line' time as well. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog

  3. Ha! Your post reminds me of a text I recently sent...I thought I was just sending it to my husband, then, after I clicked send realized I had typed on an earlier group post. The message itself was sweet, but it still felt weird! I'm with you, there are lots of pluses to all of this technology and I have made many wonderful friends via SM groups too.

  4. I don't think we need to feel badly about being social butterflies either! It's like anything else, keep it in moderation and we are good to go!
